Title: Habibi
Author: Naomi Nye
Genre: Cultural
Summary: The
day after Liyana got her first kiss, her life changed forever. It didn’t change
because of her kiss, but because it was the day her father had announced that
her family was moving from St. Louis all the way to Palestine. Even though her
father grew up there, Liyana didn’t know much about her Arab heritage. All of
her family members that live over there are complete strangers to her, and in
addition, they speak a language that she doesn’t understand! Liyana meets Omar,
who is Jewish, and their friendship is forbidden in their land. Liyana needs to
make her family understand how she is feeling, but she also needs to understand
her “new” culture.
Characters:
Liyana, Omar
Plot: N/A
Theme: Culture
Opinion: I liked this
book, because it explained thoroughly cultures and the many differences that
most cultures have. It shows that everyone is similar to an extent, and
although people are different, they can all come together in the end.
