Title: The World of
Pooh: The Complete Winnie-the-Pooh and the House at Pooh Corner
Author: A. A. Milne
Genre: Fantasy
Summary: One day, Pooh
was bored, so in the snow, he decided to go to Piglet’s house to see what he
was doing. To his surprise, Piglet wasn’t home. Just to be sure, Pooh knocked
very loudly, but Piglet didn’t answer. While waiting, Pooh jumped up and down
to keep warm and he hummed “Hummed Hopefully to Others.” Pooh hurried back to
his house and said he was going to visit Eeyore. When he got back home, Piglet
was sitting in his arm chair. Pooh was confused because he thought Piglet was
out, but Piglet said Pooh was the one who was out. They were going to find
Eeyore and sing to him. Piglet was anxious to sing to Eeyore and thought that
maybe they could practice that day and sing to Eeyore another day. Pooh was set
on singing that day, so he sang the song for Piglet one more time. While they
got close to Eeyore’s Gloomy Place, Pooh began to think about Eeyore and how he
had no place to live. Everyone else had a place to live, but Eeyore didn’t and
Pooh felt bad. Pooh had an idea! He said they should build Eeyore a house.
Christopher Robin had just gotten off his boat because he had been indoors all
day traveling back and forth from Africa. He went to Eeyore to see how he was
doing, but Eeyore wasn’t happy because of the cold, snowy weather. Eeyore
explained to Christopher Robin that he had built himself a house that morning,
but it wasn’t there now. Christopher Robin said that they would go and look for
it. Suddenly, Eeyore heard something. It was Pooh singing and Piglet too. They
were singing about finishing a beautiful house! They showed Eeyore his new
house that they had built for him. Eeyore was so happy. That night, Winnie the
Pooh woke up suddenly to a noise. He thought that it was Eeyore, Piglet or
Christopher Robin, but it wasn’t any of them. Pooh got up and say hello to a
strange animal. The animal was Tigger. Tigger said Christopher Robin knew about
him. Pooh went back to sleep and told Tigger he would see him in the morning,
and Tigger was the first thing he saw. Tigger said there were other animals
like him and he didn’t know about them. Tigger said that Pooh’s table cloth
tried to bite him, but Pooh insisted that it didn’t. He put a jar of honey on
the table, and Tigger went right into it. After they ate honey, which Tigger
said he didn’t like, they went to visit Piglet. Pooh warned Tigger that Piglet
was small and didn’t like jumping and bouncing around. Pooh introduced them.
The three of them went to see Eeyore. They walked and walked and Pooh
introduced Tigger to Eeyore. Tigger ate some breakfast at Eeyore’s house, and
Pooh made a poem about how bouncy Tigger was to Piglet. Pooh went to
Christopher Robin to ask what Tigger’s eat, because Tigger told Pooh he likes
everything and everything that Pooh has tried to give him, he doesn’t like. So
far Tigger said he liked everything except honey, hay corns and thistles. Next,
they went to Kanga’s house. Kanga’s son, Roo, needed to take medicine to make
him stronger, but suddenly, it was gone. Tigger took it for him! Kanga was not
happy. Tigger lived at Kanga’s house after this, and had Extract of Malt for
breakfast, dinner and tea. The next day, Pooh was sitting in his house counting
his jars of honey, when there was a knock at the door. It was Rabbit, and Pooh
lost count. Rabbit came over to ask Pooh if he had seen Small, but Pooh wasn’t
even sure who Small was. Small was Rabbit’s friend-and-relation. Pooh told
Rabbit that he hadn’t seen anyone that day, but he asked Rabbit if Small was
lost. Rabbit said that nobody had seen him for a few days, so he guessed so.
Rabbit promised Christopher Robin that he would organize a search for Small, so
he and Pooh went off. Rabbit organized the search. He sent Pooh to look by the
Six Pine Trees first and then work his way towards Owl’s House. In two hours,
the two of them would meet. As Pooh was searching for Piglet to see exactly who
Small was, he found himself flying like an owl. Soon enough, he fell down, and
heard a small voice asking for help. It was Piglet. Pooh had fallen on top of
him. They thought they had fallen into a trap and they didn’t know what to do.
They found out that Small’s real name was Very Small Beetle, but he was called
Small for short. Suddenly, they heard a voice. It was Christopher Robin, but
Piglet and Pooh thought that it was something
else. When they got out of the ditch, there was something that Piglet noticed
that was crawling on Pooh’s back. Piglet said it was very small. They found
small! Christopher Robin helped them out of the pit and two days later, Rabbit
met Eeyore in the forest. Eeyore said he was looking for Small, but Rabbit told
him that Small was found two days prior. One day, Pooh was thinking and he
thought to go see Eeyore because he hadn’t seen him since the day before. On
his way, he thought that he hadn’t seen Owl since the day before yesterday, so
he stopped through the Hundred Acre Wood on the way to see if Owl was home. As
Pooh was on his way, he thought of all of his other friends as well, and sang
more of his song. He sat on the stone and went across the pond, but after
singing, he got up and walked back across the stream to set off for Rabbit’s
house. He thought about what he would do if Rabbit wasn’t home, so half an hour
later; he set off for Piglet’s house. Piglet was busy digging a small hole in
the group, but Pooh went over anyways. Pooh said that if he planted a honeycomb
outside of his house, then it will grow into a beehive. That morning, Kanga was
feeling motherly, so she went out and took a walk with Tigger, talking about
all the things that Tigger’s can do. They can fly, they can jump, and they can
swim and climb trees. Tigger and Roo climbed a tree, and the branch they had
been on broke and Tigger just caught hold of the branch above him. When Pooh
and Piglet were walking, they saw an animal in the tree and Piglet held onto
Pooh. It was Tigger and Roo. They were stuck high in the trees because Tigger
forgot that he could only climb up and not down, because his tail would get in
the way! At last, Christopher Robin and Eeyore came strolling along. Pooh and
Piglet asked what they could do. Christopher Robin suggested that they could
use his tunic, so that Tigger and Roo would fall into it, but it would be soft
and they wouldn’t get hurt. Roo jumped down, and flew up almost as high as he
started off. He was alright. Next went Tigger. Since Tigger was a little
heavier, he squashed Eeyore, but they all ended up alright. The next day was
one of Rabbit’s very important days. He trotted off for a busy day towards
Christopher Robin’s house, because he said that Christopher Robin liked and
respected him the most. He went through the Hundred Acre Wood, feeling very
important, and knocked at the door of Christopher Robin, who didn’t seem to be
home. There was a note by the door saying that Christopher Robin was out and he
would be back son. Rabbit wanted to tell everyone, so he went to Owl’s house to
show him the note. Owl said that the day before, the same thing happened to
him. It was a different note, but it had the same meaning. Next, Rabbit hurried
off to find Pooh, when he heard a sound. It was another song by Pooh, called
Noise. Pooh hadn’t seen Christopher Robin around that time any other day, so he
didn’t know what he did in the mornings either. Pooh wasn’t of any help, so
Rabbit found Piglet. Piglet had gotten up early that morning to pick himself a
bunch of violets. Piglet thought to himself that nobody had picked violets for
Eeyore, so he went back out, reminding himself to get violets for Eeyore over
and over again. Piglet went to Eeyore, and he seemed down again. He had made an
A, he said for education, out of sticks. Eeyore agreed to answer Rabbit’s
question. Rabbit asked Eeyore what Christopher Robin does in the morning.
Eeyore said he learns and he becomes education. Rabbit insisted on going back
and telling everyone else. The next morning, the notice on Christopher Robin’s
door said “Gone out. Back soon. C.R.” This is why all of the animals in the
forest, except the Spotted and Herbaceous Backson know what Christopher Robin
does in the mornings. Pooh was walking by the river one day, which wasn’t small
and sparkly anymore, and he was holding a fir-cone. Suddenly, it fell out of
his hand and into the river. He dropped the fir-cone on one side, and it had
come back up on the other side. Pooh wanted to see if he could do it again, so
he got another cone. This was the beginning of a game called Poohsticks. Pooh
and his friends used to play with
sticks, but now he would play with the fir-cones. While they were playing the
game one day, they saw something grey in the water. They thought it was one of
their fir-cones, but it wasn’t. It was Eeyore! He needed help getting out of
the water, so his friends needed to devise a plan on how to help him out. They
were finally able to get Eeyore out of the water, and when it was all said and
done, Eeyore admitted that Tigger bounced him into the water. Tigger came
strolling along and they asked him about it. He said he had a cough and that’s
how Eeyore fell into the water. Along came Christopher Robin, and the animals
tried to explain to him what had happened to Eeyore. Christopher Robin tried to
ignore what had happened and he said they should all just play a game of
Poohsticks, so they did, and Eeyore won his first time playing more than anyone
else had. One day, Piglet and Rabbit were sitting outside of Pooh’s house, with
Pooh as well, talking about how they need to “unbounce” Tigger. Pooh was busy
listening to the summer air, and didn’t pay much attention to them, but he
opened his eyes every so often to pretend like he was listening. Rabbit and
Piglet decided it was time to teach Tigger a lesson. Pooh, Rabbit and Piglet
went off and Tigger ran around them in circles. Soon, the path got narrow and
the mist got thick, so Tigger kept disappearing. The next time Tigger bounced
towards them, they disappeared. They hid from Tigger and they all ran off,
following Rabbit. Tiger found his way back to Kanga’s house, and he explained
what had happened. Christopher Robin said they had to go out and find everyone.
Roo wanted to go, but they wouldn’t let him come alone. The others were
obviously lost in the forest, but they hunted for food and found some dinner.
Pooh had said there were twelve pots of honey left in his cupboard. Suddenly, out of the mist, came Christopher
Robin, who went home with Pooh and watched him for a long time. At last, Tigger
came and saw Rabbit. He wasn’t bouncing nearly as much as he had been. Rabbit
was finally glad to see him! Next, we are introduced to a place that is halfway
between Pooh’s house and Piglet’s house. It is their Thoughtful Spot, so Pooh
wrote a verse about it. One autumn morning, Pooh and Piglet were thinking and
they decided to go see everybody, just because they wanted too. They got up,
but the wind knocked Piglet back down again. First they went to Pooh’s house
and then they went to Kanga’s. Next was Rabbits and by this time, Christopher
Robin was home so they visited him. Hurrying around the corner and just in
time, they had a Proper Tea with owl and next they saw Eeyore. Piglet was being
pushed back farther and farther by the wind and he thought to Pooh about a tree
falling down from all the wind, but Pooh insisted a tree wouldn’t fall, so
Piglet was comforted. On their way back, they went to Owl’s house again, and
Owl invited them inside. Pooh and Piglet were looking at a picture of Owl’s
Uncle Robert, when suddenly, Pooh heard a loud noise and he began to fall on
Piglet, who began to cry for help. The chairs began sliding down and the clock
fell onto the mantelpiece, taking vases along with it. Owl was with them again.
It was the wind, so again, Pooh wrote a verse about it. After this, the three
of them made something with Owl’s letterbox, which was big enough for Piglet to
fit into. They pulled Piglet up with a string. He saw that Owl’s tree had blown
over and he said he’d be back in a half hour, so Owl began telling Pooh the
story about his Uncle Robert, and Pooh closed his eyes. The next day, Pooh saw
what Owl’s house had looked like from the wind the day before, and there was a
note under his door. It said something about searching for a new house for Owl
and something about Rabbit, who came to his door but was in a hurry. Next, they
saw Eeyore, who wasn’t please. He complained that nobody kept him informed
about anything and that he hadn’t talked to any of his friends in eleven days.
They told him that he stayed in one corner and it was his fault. Pooh found
Piglet and they walked back to Owl’s house together. Pooh hummed his entire
song to Piglet, all seven verses of it, which nobody had ever done for Piglet
before. He was so happy. When they got to Owl’s house, everyone was
there…except for Eeyore. Christopher Robin was telling them what to do and they
had already gotten a rope. When Pooh and Piglet arrived, they stopped working
to take a break and hear Pooh’s song. Owl listened and decided to call his new
home “The Wolery.” Christopher Robin then saw Eeyore, and they decided to talk.
Eeyore had said that he built a new house for Piglet, and Christopher Robin
asked what Piglet would do if his house were to blow down. Pooh answered for
him and said that Piglet would live with him. The animals realized that
Christopher Robin was going away and Rabbit wrote a notice to all of his
friends telling them that he wanted to call a meeting at Pooh’s Corner.
Everyone agreed and Eeyore was there, seeming as if he was saying goodbye too.
The animals wrote a rissolution and they all signed it and brought it to
Christopher Robin’s house. By the time he was done reading it and he looked up
to say thank you, only Pooh was left, so they started to walk and talk. Pooh
and Christopher Robin came to a place and they knew it was enchanted.
Christopher Robin began to tell Pooh about kings and queens, and a place called
Europe. Christopher Robin was moving to this place in the forest, and he asked
Pooh to never forget about him and to promise that he would go visit, by
himself. Pooh promised.
